Why Valencia hasn’t been at his best for Manchester United this season

Antonio Valencia

Its no secret that Luis Antonio Valencia, one of Manchester United’s best and most consistent performer last season, hasn’t been able to replicate his form of last season in the current campaign. Valencia himself has admitted to the same and agreed that his performances this season have been below par.

It’s not been quite the season I would have hoped on a personal front, the injuries I’ve had have held me back a bit. I still get the odd twinge from the last injury I had to my leg and that perhaps affected my progress slightly.’
This is what Valencia was quoted to be saying recently.
Here’s why I think he has been suffering from such poor form lately...

INJURIES
Valencia in Liverpool game
Valencia has been having a torrid time with injuries especially since he broke his ankle against Rangers in 2010. He’s had quite a few injuries after that particularly horrific one and had suffered another one in Sept. last year when he injured his foot against Liverpool. His inconsistent form could be partly attributed to his injuries and subsequent irregular appearances.
CONFIDENCE
Valencia against former Red, O'She
With his injuries its also his confidence that has suffered. He hasn’t looked comfortable on the ball, and always seems like he’s out of ideas of what to do with it. He has lost the confidence of taking on a full back – he just simply gives the ball away. It will need a consistent run of games for him to get his confidence back.

PRESSURE
Valencia now wearing the iconic 7
At the beginning of this season, Valencia was handed the number ‘7’ jersey which was vacated by the outgoing Michael Owen. Its possible that the pressure of matching up to the standards set by legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo has got to him. Maybe this is one of the reasons he hasn’t been able to perform.

ONE FOOTED-NESS & STYLE OF PLAY
Valencia so rare to use his weaker foot
Its clear to all those who’ve ever watched him play. His right foot is terrific. Brilliant. But his ability to do things with the weaker foot are limited. Its almost as if he as the style of play programmed into him. He will go to the by-line and put in a cross or pass with his right. His style has become predictable and so it becomes easier for the defenders to close him down accordingly.

Now even though he hasn’t been very good of late, lets hope he has a stronger finish to the season. We’ve all heard this ‘Form is temporary, class is permanent’. He has the ability, just needs to re-discover  his form. He could still be a vital player for United in the coming months and also the next few seasons. We just need to keep the faith in him to come good!

Feel free to share your thoughts on him in the comments below or on twitter. [@DjK_MUFC: https://twitter.com/DjK_MUFC]
Thanks a lot for the reads!

12 Transfers That Might Be Happened

These players were related for a transfer to/from Manchester United during some period time. Here goes the list:

1. Ferenc Puskas
1958 - Real Madrid to Manchester United

Ferenc Puskas
After the historical Munich Crash. Manchester United were rushing to build a new strong team while their current starting mens were all in rehabilitation. Real Madrid at that time offered pre-contracted player, Puskas, to United.

The transfer was cancelled by The FA because Puskas couldn't speak in English, and United couldn't pay his high wage demands.

Then, he signed for Real Madrid and became their main striker.

2. Dennis Irwin
1992 - Manchester United to Leeds United

Dennis Irwin
Summer of 1992. Leeds chairman Bill Fothreby telegraphed United's chairman Martin Edwards for the availability of Irwin wheater he's for sale or not. As Edwards and Sir Alex agreed Irwin wasn't for sale, accidentally United got Cantona.

SAF committed that United needs a striker at that time. They've made bid for several strikers, including Matt Le Tessier, and David Hirst. But then, Leeds make their way for United approaching Cantona - United bring home Cantona then for just only £2m

3. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
1997 - Manchester United to Tottenham Hotspurs
Ole Solskjaer

Spurs were running out of strikers, and they made a bid on United's sub Ole Solskjaer. United knew Solskjaer didn't have so many chances to play regularly on United's starting line up as several times before the offer, United just signed Trinidad-Tobago striker, Dwight Yorke from Aston Villa

United then accepted the offer from Spurs and let them to meet Solskjaer. But, Solskjaer rejected the offer as he wants "to stay in the biggest club". Ole then continued to play with United until his retirement in 2007. In his period time with United, he brought us to won the treble - include his historical goal vs Munich in UCL final.

4. Cristiano Ronaldo
2002 - Sporting Lisbon to Liverpool
2003 - Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal

Cristiano Ronaldo
The youngman has made major interest from many big clubs, specially from England. As he broke through Sporting Lisbon's first team in just 17 years old, his talent has been known by scouts. Liverpool and Arsenal were the first team that scouted the young man. United joined later

In 2002, Liverpool made an approach. As Sporting wants £10m for Ronaldo, Liverpool stopped their interest because they thought that it was too expensive for a teenager. Arsenal stopped to continue their interest because also thought that it was too expensive. United then transferred the future all-star above Sporting's demands - £12,5m

5. Aiden McGeady
2006 - Celtic to Manchester United

Aiden McGeady
United have shown their interest on Irish winger several years before their official bid. In summer of 2006, United made a bid on McGeady for replacement of Ronaldo that at that time was reported nearly sold to Madrid as the collision with Rooney in the world cup.

McGeady has similar playing type compared to Ronaldo - he oftentimes show offs his skills to go past the defender. But, when United bid for him, he rejected United's offer because he wants to stay in his childhood club, Celtic. United then signed Nani from Sporting Lisbon as Ronaldo's backup a year afterward.

In 2009, after some hassle with his manager at Celtic, he decided to move to Russian side Spartak Moskva for about £15m

6. Gareth Bale
2007 - Southampton to Manchester United

Gareth Bale
In very young age, United were interested on Soton's promising wing-back, Gareth Bale. Many clubs were interested on him well, but Spurs was the biggest bidder in that period of time. United weren't rushing on him because they thought he won't enough for United, as United's left back position has been accused by Patrice Evra.

After signed for Spurs, Bale quickly turns into a winger. United then realize the potential he's got - similar playing type compared to Giggs, plus knuckle shot just like Ronaldo usually does.

In 2013, reported that United have made a bid for Bale to Spurs. But, (reported that) Spurs wants £70m for Bale - some thinks that it's too much for Bale.

7. Wesley Sneijder
2010, 2011, 2012 - Inter Milan to Manchester United

Wesley Sneijder
This might be the most boring transfer rumor - spread for about 3 years every summer. Sneijder wasn't happy at Inter Milan as he wants contract extension and rejects Inter's offer as they didn't met the demands. Media said that United were finding the replacement of retiring Paul Scholes. After his transfer to Galatasaray last winter, he said about Manchester United rumors:

"Yes, they (United) have made some interest on me after the World Cup (2010). But Inter didn't let me go.

"They made another interest the next year, but not as determined as before."

In 2010, an English media posted a controversial post as they said "Sneijder to Manchester United confirmed". Later then, the post was deleted.

8. Luis Nani
2011 - Manchester United to Fiorentina, Inter Milan
2012 - Manchester United to Arsenal
Luis Nani

Luis Nani was reported having talks with several Italians club in the winter transfer, includes Fiorentina who shown biggest interest after they signed Adem Ljajic from United a year earlier.

Nani wants starting line up role, as he thought he hasn't got it in United. But then, the rumors calm down.

In 2012, again Nani reported for a move to Arsenal as he rejected United's contract extension offer as they don't met their demands. Nani wants £110k/week of wages, but United think that it's too much for Nani as he hasn't shown the best of him yet. United offered a £90k/week wages, and until now they haven't met their demands. Since his 5-year signing back in 2007, Nani hasn't signed a new contract.

9. Wayne Rooney
2011 - Manchester United to Real Madrid
2013 - Manchester United to ???

Wayne Rooney
In 2010, Rooney somehow rejected United's £220k/week contract extension offer. He wanted to leave Manchester United sooner or later. The rumor spread that he wanted the Madrid move.

After several weeks, Rooney's mind made clear when United made another offer with the same terms, he accepted it. He then wrote on his twitter after his contract extension:

"I will stay in Manchester United for a long, long time"

A year later, he wrote on his book:

"It (the transfer request) was the most disappointing decision ever in my life"

But in 2013, after he got benched in UCL 16round stage vs Madrid game, the media spread that Rooney will leave in summer. Quickly, Sir Alex dismissed it and says that he will stay in Man United. United's legend, Sir Bobby Charlton, also says that Rooney will stay and the club won't let him go

10. Robert Lewandowski
2012 - Borrusia Dortmund to Manchester United

Robert Lewandowski
United were rushing to sign a deadly striker after disappointing goal record a season before after lost the BPL title just in goal difference. In the DFB Pokal final, Sir Alex was recorded watching the game, reported that he's scouting Japanese midfielder, Shinji Kagawa, and Polanski attacker, Robert Lewandowski, as well as German defender, Matt Hummels.

After signed Kagawa from the same club, United were rushing to sign Lewandowski. But, as they saw Arsenal's skipper, Robin van Persie, was on sale, United changed their focus to van Persie as they thought that they could get van Persie cheaper than Lewandowski.

van Persie then signed for United. But, the rumor of Lewandowski is spreading until now.

11. Eden Hazard
2012 - Lille to Manchester United

Eden Hazard
In a league match vs Marseille, Sir Alex attended the game, reported that he's scouting Lille's winger, Eden Hazard. Hazard was approached by plenty of English clubs, includes United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

United weren't too rushing on him because United have got plenty of good wingers. Hazard then declares that he's joining Chelsea after his tweet:

"I joined European Champions"

12. Lucas Moura
2012 - Sao Paulo to Manchester United

Lucas Moura
The teenager has been scouted by plenty of European clubs by years after his promising performance at Brazilian club, Sao Paulo. In 2012, United and Inter Milan were the best club to sign for him as both bid him for around £15m.

But then, French rich club, Paris Saint Germain, joined the market with "unmarket" store as they bid the teenager for £25m.

Both United and Inter Milan thought that it was too much for a teenager, leaving PSG alone on the market

A Salute to Ryan Giggs

Generally when a player plays for Manchester United we say he’s lucky to do so, but in Ryan Giggs’ case we must have to say that Manchester United is lucky to have a player like him.

Last night, Ryan Giggs hits his 1000 appearances in senior football. He made those appearances with only three teams Wales, Great Britain and Manchester United. It’s one of those amazing things in football which rarely happens.

Ryan Giggs is 39 but still, he plays like a youngster. He made 932 Manchester United appearances and has never been sent off when playing. Giggs’ story has no end it goes on and on… Really, Ryan Giggs is an inspiration for other footballers.

Sir Ryan Giggs,
An amazing man with an amazing carrier.
