Why Ronaldo to Manchester United shouldn’t happen

Cristiano Ronaldo - this is a name that most Man United fans - including me - remember with fondness. During his six year year spell at United, he endeared himself to the United supporters to such an extent, that we still sing songs about him 3 years after his departure.

            This is something that he hasn't managed to achieve at the Spanish Capital. There are certain sections of fans at the Santiago Bernabeu who had been vocally displaying their displeasure at his performances. This was after he scored a phenomenal 185 goals in 183 games in all competitions for the Madrid side. Reports claim that, Madrid have failed to offer him a new contract that fulfils his demands.

On this basis, the media has gone a step ahead and suggested that a £55m move to United could be on the cards. And I think, that this shouldn’t happen. Here’s why:

TRANSFER FEE

            When Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, it was for a world record fee of £80 million.
Ronaldo's performances haven't dropped since moving from Man United, in fact he has improved. There are no question that Madrid, if they agree to let him leave, will want to get as much money as they can get for him.

            As the media reports suggest, this fee will most definitely lie in excess of £55-60m. Manchester United do not have such a large amount of money to spend, and certainly not on a single player. To fund such a transfer, United will be forced to sell multiple of their star players possibly including Rooney (who has been linked with a summer £40m move to PSG), Nani, De Gea or Young.

            Such a scenario will destabilise the whole squad and hence, isn’t plausible.

ABUNDANCE OF PERSONNEL

            The current Man United team has a sense of balance and are working great as a unit. There is no shortage of players either on the wings or upfront, with Young, Valencia, Nani, Rooney, RvP, Chicharito, Welbeck and numerous other quality players in the United squad.

            Apart from them, we’ve got a great batch of youngsters coming through. Upfront, we’ve got youngsters like Macheda, King, Cofie, W.Keane and on the wings players like Januzaj, Lingard, Giverin and Zaha will be vital for us in years to come. Getting Ronaldo back will only stall the progress of these youngsters.

            With all the first teamers and youngsters we’ve got, if Sir Alex was looking for reinforcements, these would probably be the last positions he'd think of.


 NO SHORTAGE OF GOALS

            Well as we are seeing at the moment, the current United squad has been scoring plenty of goals, with players like van Persie and Rooney leading from the front. We’re the top scorers in the league and haven’t had many problems scoring goals. In such a scenario it doesn’t make much sense in adding another player for our attacking side of the game. This money would be better invested elsewhere considering the immense investment involved.

            This, especially seeing that Ronaldo is already 28. It wouldn’t make sense in investing such a sum on a player who will not have any resale value.

Wayne Rooney: The King Of Old Trafford

There are good footballers and then there are great footballers, but there are some, towards which we gets attracted easily. Our bond with them only becomes stronger with time.

Yes, i am talking about the king of old trafford 'Wayne Rooney'! The one of the greatest strikers the world have ever seen. The Wazza!!

At only 16 years of age Rooney puts his first stamp on English Football by scoring a debut goal against Arsenal when he was at Everton. And became the youngest ever goal scorer. We just cant forget the words the commentator made after that goal: "Remember The Name Wayne Rooney!!"

After moving to old trafford in 2004.. on the debut Manchester United, Rooney gets his first professional football hatrick in European cup, to show the world who he is. Rooney is a phenomenal on and off the pitch. Its a treat to watch him play. He has now spent a decade in Premier League. Wayne Rooney is just 25 and has scored 139 goals for Man Utd which is incredible.

Years by years passing Rooney has proved himself one of the greatest of all time. He came at manchester united as a boy but now he is a key player for the club who wears no. 10. You can see his hard work by watching his play and every red devil appreciates it, the lad is just becoming better and better. Rooney is full pack of entertainment for fooball lovers... a perfect british footballer, a perfect red devil, and an amazing human being.

I feel unlucky not to watch George best, Sir Bobby Charlton and many more play, but at the same moment i feel so lucky and satisfied to see Wayne Rooney play. I am sure he'll definitely beat Sir Bobby Charlton's goal scoring record for manchester united. He has achived lots of things at very small age and i think there is still more to come. He proved that he is the real king of old trafford.

No matter what, Wayne Rooney is already has became a Manchester United's Legend.

Tom Cleverley - United's no 23

Tom Cleverley or Jack Wilshere. This seems to be the hottest and the most debated topic in the media and amongst the fans currently. It’s always been Cleverley or Wilshere. Wonder why it can’t be Cleverley and Wilshere. Why does does it always have to be either of them and not both of them.  Although I’ve touched that topic a little at the end of this article.

                                           

There are few players from the United Youth and Reserve team who I really look forward to play in the First team. Cleverley, Pogba, Morrison, Daehli, Januzaj, the Keane brothers, Petrucci and few others on the list. Morrison and Pogba decided to move on from United while the others are pretty much in contention to break into the first team. Cleverley, oldest of the lot, was the first one to take that step. Tom Cleverley joined the Manchester United youth setup as an 11 year old kid. Much was talked about him as he made his way up to the Reserve team. A kid with bright future with the club as well as the national team. Sir Alex Ferguson has always encouraged players from the Academy to make the big step forward. Who can forget the famous Fergie’s Fledging’s.  

Cleverley first got a taste of first team action during the pre-season tour of 2008 in South Africa. However, he never made an appearance in a competitive game that season. He had a series of loan spells before he made his competitive debut for United at the start of the 2011-12 season. His loan spells included stints at Leicester City, Watford and Wigan. He suffered long term injuries during his loans at Leicester and Watford. Just when it looked that he was settling in, the injury disrupted his progress. Despite the injury, he ended up being Watford’s Player of the Season. He scored a total of 11 League goals in 35 games for Watford. The following season, Tom again featured in the pre-season tour for United but was loaned to Wigan to gain some first-team Premiership experience. It proved to be a good decision as it gave him the opportunity to adjust himself to the Premier League game-style. He played 25 games for the Latics, scoring 4 goals. The main feature of his game of the creativity he brought into the midfield. He had a wide range of passing and never shy of making those long cross-field passes. He was the driving force in the Wigan midfield.

Cleverley finally made his appearance on the competitive stage for United during the 2011 Community shield against Manchester City. It was a good start to his United first team career and there were certainly signs that he could be the answer to United’s midfield issues. Scholes’ retirement meant that there was a huge void to be filled in the midfield and Sir Alex was confident that Cleverley was up for the challenge. Usually deployed as a Central Midfielder, Tom can play both, as an Attacking midfielder as well as on the right side of the midfield. His primary strength and position remains in the centre. He has certainly shown glimpses of his quality and what he can bring to the midfield. He’s an intelligent passer of the ball and has good control over it. He’s obviously not reached the ‘Scholes’ level but has made good progress. His first season was hampered by frequent injuries and kept him out of the team for long periods. Quite often he was very inconsistent with his performances. He showcased his talent in bits and pieces and went missing at other times. Some of his performances were rusty and seemed like the media hype was affecting his game.

The current season has been more fruitful for him. He’s done well in establishing himself as a first team regular in the midfield. Another important thing is that, he’s managed to keep his fitness levels high. The midfield partnership with Carrick has been outstanding so far. Both of them complement each other very well. Carrick playing in the holding midfield position has given Tom the freedom to attack more and make forward runs. The attacking runs into opposition penalty area as well as holding up the play in midfield has been very good. He has terrific vision and good combination play, but his final ball lets him down sometimes. Another key element is his versatility. He can adapt to different formations depending on the need. He still lacks that goal-scoring ability from midfield. That’s something he needs to work on and eventually develop. Although, he did score two wonderful goals curled into the bottom corner almost similar to each other. One being against Sunderland and the other in a FA Cup game against West Ham.

As for the National Team, injuries hampered his inclusion initially. He has put in a few decent performances but is capable of doing far better. Being a first team regular for the club will help him cement his position for England alongside Wilshere. The onus of replacing Gerrard and Lampard is firmly on these two. It’ll be interesting to see how Roy Hodgson manages to get both of them together in the starting XI. I just hope that it doesn’t lead to the debate whether Wilshere and Cleverley can play in the same team. Unlike in the case of Gerrard and Lampard, both the players in this case are capable of inter-changing positions. Cleverley has proved himself to be effective as an attacking midfielder and on the other hand, Wilshere has done a good job being deployed in the centre of the midfield.

Coming to the debate about who is better, I feel at this point Wilshere edges over Cleverley. He’s undoubtedly the first name on the Arsenal team-sheet. His performances in the season before last were tremendous. His vision, passing and ball-control have been excellent. He does have issues sometimes with his temper and dives in to rash tackles. One thing that has worked in favor for Wilshere is that, he’s had to take up the responsibility of handling the Arsenal midfield very early on in his career and has responded very well to that challenge. And with Fabregas gone, he quickly became a central figure in the Arsenal team. On the other hand, Cleverley took a few years to break into the first team. He had Scholes, Carrick and Fletcher ahead of him and it was evident that he wouldn’t get the required time on the field had he not gone on loan. Despite the injuries to both of them, Wilshere has made over 80 appearances for Arsenal while Cleverley has featured just 38 times for United. These factors have helped Wilshere establish himself better than Cleverley. If nutured and played to their full potential, England could have a deadly midfield combination in Jack and Tom.

                                      

Coming back to Cleverley, he has been very good this season. He’s slowly starting to repay the early faith and expectations shown by the fans and the manager. The next season could be very vital for him. The opportunity is present; it’s up to him to make full use of it. Nothing makes you happier than seeing an Academy player making it big at the highest level. Tom has made a good start and something he can definitely build upon. In coming years, Cleverley could be the goal-scoring midfielder United always wanted. And along with Wilshere, he’s the future of English midfield.

Days before Madrid vs Manchester United kicked off, people around the world had already talking about it. Let's call it "Superclasico". Real Madrid and Manchester United both have great history and great relationships. One example, after the famous Munich Air Disaster, of course United were running out of first team players. At that time, rumored that Real Madrid offered a free transfer for Ferenc Puskas, a deadly striker and one of the best in the world. But United refused the offer due to they couldn't paid his wage.


A day before the match, my friends started to talk to me, "You'll be confused, supporting Ronaldo or Manchester United?", wisely i answered "For sure, Manchester United". Badge on the front are more important than name on the back. In school, and virtual world, i known by massive United and Cristiano's fan. That's very true, to be honest. But, i'd rather and always be more happy to see United winning over Cristiano's team than seeing him to win over United. Yesterday, and 5th March, was and will be a very emotional game for me, and for other United fans.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a wonderful and unforgettable 6 years during his time wearing the massive Manchester United shirt. He brought us to the new speedy and skillful taste of football, which was feeling so salty before he came in. Step overs, chops, ended with a shot on target or even a goal that stopped your heart in a moment, you've to remember them. He's certainly our legend. As George Best said, "In years, i wasn't so sure that there's another 'George Best' in this world. But, after i saw Ronaldo, i'm sure that there's another 'George Best'".

He brought us to bring home even more trophies. In fact, up to today, he's the only no7 players in United that has bring the most trophy in Old Trafford's trophy cabinet. He had given a massive 10 trophies for Manchester United during his 6 years time with United - an astonishing 1,67 trophies per season in average. The most famous was in the 07-08 season when he was truly sensational. Scored 42 goals in a season, made him the second most goal scored in a season in club history, after Dennis Law's 46 goals in 63-63 season. In 2008, he given an indirect treble for United as United won Premier League, Champions League, and FIFA World Cup Club trophy. As bonuses, he awarded FIFA Player of The Year and Ballon d'Or in 2008 - which he couldn't get more until today.

After his world record £80m transfer, he never faced his former team, Manchester United, until the UCL round of 16 draw result which was produced that Manchester United vs Madrid will happen. This is surely what the football fans are wanted for, the duel of two world top clubs. And, this also the reunion for Ronaldo and Manchester United. Last time Ronaldo participate in Manchester United game was a 2-0 loss to Barcelona in 2009 UCL final - also his last for United.

In the first leg of the match, it was an emotional game, to be honest. As i said before, this was emotional for Ronaldo, Manchester United, and United fans. Me, and other United fans, also other football fans, enjoyed entirely the match. Danny Welbeck and David De Gea were outstanding. But, my focus wasn't at them - mine, was at Ronaldo. After he scored his goal (which was similar to his goal in Moscow), Ronaldo shown his respect as he wasn't celebrating after scoring a beauty. I was feeling so sad because we conceded, happy because Ronaldo scored and did not celebrates, and sad because he scored for the wrong team (for me). All at the same time. The game ended 1-1 with goal away in our advantages, that wasn't a bad result, it's great to be honest (Remember, we're facing Real Madrid).

After the match, it's a pleasure, a MASSIVE pleasure when i saw Ronaldo quickly hugs Sir Alex, and came to United players and staffs, and talking to them. Specially when he hugged Sir Alex, it definitely tears me up. He's my idol and inspiration for me. It feels so hard to see him in another shirt beside Manchester United shirt. Yesterday was the most emotional game i've ever seen. And it'll be repeated in 5th March at Old Trafford. "Has left United 3 years ago, we still sing his name" THAT BOY RONALDO, MAKE ENGLAND LOOK SH*TE!

REAL MADRID vs. MANCHESTER UNITED last meet in 2002/03 UCL Last 16, when Real Madrid won 6-5 on aggregate. The suspense is building as this is the one of most awaited fixture of this year and a rare one in Europe too.

 Football, rivalry, cup, emotion, pressure, fans, pride…   everything’s here.

• Talking Point:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo, former Red Devils hero, currently is top goal scorer for Real Madrid, is he the only threat to Man United?  Yes, he can be.                                                                              If you have seen Madrid playing this season you might have noticed Benzema, Di Maria, Modric. They have not been so effective this season. They are not feeding goals or either scoring them. But still he's a threat for United as he have scored a hat-rick and assisted a goal on Saturday's 4-1 win vs Sevilla.                                                                                                                                    
2.  Can Robin van Persie or Rooney lead Manchester United to the Cup run? Possible.                                                                                                                                           Rooney scoring 8 goals in last 8 matches and scoring for England  in a win over Brazil has showed that he can't  be underestimated, Chicharito the Super-SUB can also make some unexpected runs and bring opposition team in an expected threat and United wingers have linked so well with van Persie who is totally unpredictable andd can score at any time. We have seen it all this season. Most important thing is that van Persie has almost scored in all the important fixtures of the date so we can hope that RvP will score in this important fixture too.  

CR7 playing for Real

•  Negative side:                                                                                                                                 We have seen Man Utd struggled at defensive positions this season conceding about 25 goals or something. Players like Ozil, Benzema, Alonso, Di Maria, and Modric can possess a direct threat to the Man United defense but thanks to Vidic and Rio, they both are fit and they are back at back.                                                                                                                     Fergie has hinted this week that there will be a massive squad rotation, so the game against Everton on Sunday will be a totally different squad than that we will see in Spain, 4 or 5 players no doubt will play both Everton and Madrid, in next 3 days. At Everton, I hope Vidic will be played with Smalling, Rio to be rested. United back four Rio, Vida, Rafael and Evra will be key players for United to stop Madrid midfielders, it will be hard. It will be Rafael/Smalling’s job to keep CR7 out.

• Positive Side:                                      

                         Robin van Persie scores!! We have heard this 25 times this season. Rooney as well a threatening player always as well Chicharito. Fergie have some great options for the attack and in midfield too. Carrick, Cleverly, Scholesy, Anderson, Giggsy, Kagawa, Nani, Young, Valencia...  

 

·                                  Fergie can choose two wingers & two CM’s or one CM and play the diamond formation, it’s up to Fergie and we know well that he likes to give surprises. Nevertheless, Manchester United has scored more than 60 goals already this season in all competitions, well, that’s the great thing, so we can expect a good entertaining game on Wednesday night.
