5 Best Signings Made by Sir Alex

Sir Alex Ferguson's Top 5 Signings

 1)  Cristiano Ronaldo
In : 2003, Sporting Lisbon, £12,5m
Out : 2009, Real Madrid, £80m

Of Course, everybody on the planet knows him. Cristiano Ronaldo. For me, he's my idol, and Sir Alex's best ever signing. Why? Simple.

Since Ronaldo came in to replace David Beckham's departure to Madrid back in 2003, United played more dynamical, more exciting. Before he came in, United were used to play long balls. But, with his tricks, speed, and pace to pass the defenders simply changed the way United play. Plus, he has got a massive confidence every time he's on the pitch. To make it simple, he has brought ManUnited to what we known "Manchester United" today.

His Real Madrid saga started in 2006 after his incident with teammate Wayne Rooney in the World Cup. Yeah, you know that. But then, Ronaldo stayed for another three years and won FIFA World Best Player and Ballon d'Or of the year 2008. In summer of 2009, United accepted Madrid's world record £80m transfer request for Ronaldo, made him the most expensive player.

2) Eric Cantona
In : 1992, Leeds United, £1.2m
Out : 1997, retired

Nicknamed "The King", Eric Cantona has stole the crowd of Old Trafford. Brought accidentally for 'just' £1.2m in 1992, Sir Alex simply has made a great decision.

He was Leeds' deadly striker, but underrated. Sir Alex knew what he can do, thats why Sir Alex bought him. He brought United to their first league title for nearly 26 years of league title-less.

The accident with a Crystal Palace fan in an away match loss was costly - he was fined and 6 months of ban without football. Inter Milan approached him to continue his career during 6 months of ban, but the King rejects it to continue his ban.

In summer 1997, The King announced his retirement on the age of 31. Everyone were shocked.

3) Ruud van Nistelrooy
In : 2001, PSV,  £19 m
Out : 2006, Real Madrid, €24m

Probably Sir Alex's best ever pure finisher, Ruud van Nistelrooy's transfer originally made in 2000, but the player had a bad injury, so the transfer was delayed a year later.

van Nistelrooy has been known for his deadly finishing. He wasn't afraid to take shots, where ever it is.

His relationship with teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and manager Sir Alex broke down in 05/06 season. van Nistelrooy was upset because he felt Ronaldo was forcing too much for himself and not passing to teammates, shouting "go crying your dead" in front of Ronaldo, whose lost his dad earlier in the season. van Nistelrooy then quit United for Real Madrid in 2006, but he couldn't back to his form.

In 2011, he announced that he has no more conflict with former boss, Sir Alex Ferguson.

4) Wayne Rooney
In : 2004, Everton, £25.6m
Out : Currently still playing for Manchester United

Rooney is today's Manchester United star. After United won the bidding war to get him, Rooney was a promising youngster that time. Signed a massive £25.6m, he was just 18 years - made him the most expensive youngster that time.

Rooney's career after Ronaldo's departure seems to be more controversy. In 3 years, he has made 2 transfer requests. Been known for his temperamental, Rooney also easy to be going mad on the pitch. But now, he has learn to control his emotion on the pitch.

Rooney's key is his power, endless running, and determination to win. He is a hundred percent team player, works hard for his team, just to get a win every single match.

5) Steve Bruce
In : 1987, Norwich City, unknown
Out : 1996, Birmingham City, free transfer

I was confused when i have to select between Robin van Persie or Steve Bruce. I was nominated van Persie because of his successful opening season with United, but i prefer Bruce because of his success with United for long period.

Hard, tackle, strong. Steve Bruce known for his power in defensive line, Nemanja Vidic nicknamed "The Next Brucey" because of some familiarity they have.

Joined United in 1987, Bruce got massive success during his time with United - won their first league title for over 26 years in 1993, some FA Cups, and UEFA Winners Cup in 1991. Shame, British clubs were disallowed to introduce in European competition during 5 years of ban after Hillsborough disaster back in 1989.

With Gary Pallister signed for Middlesbrough in 1989, Bruce and Pallister made a fantastic duo in the defensive line.
